Mr. Runyon

Director of Admissions

As the Director of Admissions, it’s Mr. Runyon’s duty to welcome prospective families into our BASIS Independent Fremont community.

Mr. Runyon hails from Portland, Oregon and graduated from the University of Oregon, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in romance languages and a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism. His entry into academics came through teaching English as a second language abroad. Mr. Runyon received his teaching certificate in Florence, Italy in 2011, and taught in Tokyo, Japan soon after. Upon moving to New York in 2012, he became an English teacher at a private English school in Manhattan. There, he was promoted to Academic Manager, where he oversaw teacher scheduling and academic compliance, and then to Student Services Manager, where he oversaw student wellness, visas, and school operations.

He comes to Fremont after working at BASIS Independent Brooklyn as Registrar and Associate Director of Admissions. Says Mr. Runyon, "It has been wonderful to see what BASIS Independent students are capable of in Brooklyn, and I am thrilled to see what the students here in Fremont will create! The BASIS Curriculum creates a learning environment like nowhere else."

When he’s not leading tours and helping prospective parents, Mr. Runyon enjoys playing and watching basketball, riding his bicycle, cooking, and practicing foreign languages. He is an avid traveler, and looks forward to exploring the Bay Area.
