Early Years: Discovery and Foundation

BASIS Independent Schools believe creating a love for learning as early as possible for a child leads to future academic and lifelong success. The BASIS Independent Early Learning Program is comprised of our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten years.

Our TK program is designed for students who are not yet ready for our kindergarten class, but for whom a traditional PreK curriculum wouldn't offer social-emotional and academic advancement.

We believe that early learning should be expertly led by thoughtful, nurturing, creative, and passionate teachers. Our educators create a learning environment where learning is a joyful and rewarding experience that maintains the integrity of each child’s imagination and natural curiosity. The environment fosters an exposure to a thematic, hands-on, comprehensive, and content-rich curriculum. It creates a blueprint for children not only to transition with ease to kindergarten and first grade, but also to become enthusiastic lifelong learners. Ultimately, the goal of the program is to foster a sense of wonder while engaging in the world that surrounds us, equipping students with a foundation for future success.

Like our kindergarten class, our TK class is led by two teachers who are responsible for instruction in reading, math, science, and social studies. Every day, our TK students take classes led by specialist teachers in subjects including Mandarin, Visual Arts, Drama, Music, and STEM. Low student teacher ratios will ensure that students will receive the individual attention they need to successfully prepare for their kindergarten year. Upon successful completion of TK, students will have a guaranteed spot in our kindergarten program at BASIS Independent Fremont.
