Lauded private school plans second Silicon Valley location

Basis.ed, the much buzzed-about private school operator, is coming to Fremont as it continues to embark on an ambitious expansion in Silicon Valley.
The opening later this year of what's called Basis Independent Fremont comes two years after the company snapped up its first site in San Jose. That site serves upper grades; the new Fremont location will be for students in grades kindergarten through five and "feed" into San Jose, school officials said.

In a school inside a former IBM office building in San Jose, California, students in grades five through 12 take on some of the most rigorous classes offered at any American grade school. Each student at Basis Independent Silicon Valley takes a minimum of six Advanced Placement courses and completes their graduation requirements before senior year, when they embark on capstone classes and independent research. Many go onto top colleges like Stanford and Cornell.
